Promoting loop-closing practices and business models organised around circular resource use in value chains, which are embedded in supportive collaborative arrangements and policy frameworks at both regional and national levels, is of strategic importance.
Nonetheless, the role and impact of circular business models is currently under-examined, the market penetration of circular businesses remains limited and there is uncertainty regarding the potential of the circular approach in empowering consumers and advancing sustainable development (incl. the social pillar). This calls for an interdisciplinary approach that combines different perspectives on circularity.
